Software Installation

This could very well be my last post...

Software Installation is our last topic in the schoolyear, and it is also our project. Specifically, we are trying to download an OS for our computers. We are going to create a video tutorial about installing a Windows 7 OS. So, if I were you, I will watch that thing in Youtube. These steps are only the beginning of us students to learn the dynamics of computer programming. So that in the future, we could be bright scientists, assisted with high-tech computers. Thanks CS1... Goodbye!!!

System Utilities & Troubleshooting

In this lesson, we, as Grade 7 students had finally felt to be a computer expert.
Sir Tom taught us the basic troubleshooting and system utilities. When you are having some problems about your computer, you don't have to call a doctor because you can resolve it yourself. It involves basic computer hardware and software problems. Mostly, Sir taught us the common errors, warnings and solutions. Just a little knowledge about cmd and task manager, you could create a repair shop of your own. Reformatting will just be a piece of cake. Viruses can be cured and antiviruses can be applied. Cool!

Also, he thought us about disk scanning, defragmenting, system backup, system restore and activating antiviruses. It is used for other aspects of your computer.

Assembling Computer Components

This time, we don't need the computers. We need the components.
This activity is a hands-on activity about Sir Tom teaching us how to fix an actual computer like toy robots.
Sir Tom showed us a computer, not an actual computer. A box full of  junks. We are about to know each and every component, its function, and its processes. These are the main components that Sir Tom showed us:

The Decision

One afternoon, when we are about to have our classes in ComSci I, or 30 minutes before our classes, a tragic mistake happened.
Me and my classmates went to the ComLab quickly. Then suddenly, we found out that there is no internet connection. So, we decided to play pinball then. My other classmates played Little Alchemy. When Sir Tom arrived he scold us and because of his anger, he gave a pop up quiz. We have low scores in that quiz because we know nothing about it. Then, Sir Tom gave the class a decision. Choice 1, the ones who played will surrender and face the consequences. Or, the ones who played will not surrender and the scores will be recorded. The class chose Choice 1. And we are very sorry for what we did.

BIN/DEC/HEX Conversions

When we studied about datas and codes, we learned something "techy". And it is how to decode some of the computer's conversions.
Although this is the hardest lesson because it involves something about math and calculations, i tried my best to keep on with it.Here's how to convert the different kinds of codes: Binary, Decimal and HexaDecimal.

Generations of Computers

Since I like history, I like to take a look back at something's past. And this time we are going to take a look at the generations of computers.

These different types of computers from different generations usually differentiate in technological development. In our generation, we have cheaper, better, smaller, faster, efficient, and has more powerful processors. The 1st generation computers are vacuum tubes that uses 0s and 1s for coding and can only solve 1 problem at a time. it uses vacuum tubes for circuitry and magnetic drums for memory. The input was punched cards and the output was printouts. The 2nd generation are transistors. The transistor use magnetic
core technology for primary memory and magnetic tapes and magnetic disks for secondary storage. The third are integrated circuits. It is like multiple transistors placed on a silicon chip. It adds speed and efficiency to the processor. Also, monitor and keyboard has been used at this time. The 4th generation computers are microprocessors. Operating systems has developed. They use the Large Scale Integration (LSI) and the Very Large Scale Integration (VLSI) technology. And lastly, the Artificial Intelligence. It has a goal to make computers capable of learning and self-organization. It uses Super Large Scale Integrated (SLSI). This generation of computers uses parallel processing. The Artificial Intelligence or AI tries to copy the way human thinks and works.

Computer System

A computer system is a combination of software and hardware.
For us to call something a computer system, it must be able to take series of inputs, process them and create outputs. It has both the hardware and software that manages it all. The hardware consisting of the input/output devices, CPU, and the memory with the software consisting of the OS and applications help each other to make the system work.
Adding something, the hardware specifications dictate the limits and maximum capability of a hardware depending on a given unit of measurement.
It is quoted that, “The hardware specifications of a computer will vary depending on what an individual user will be doing with it. A person that wants to use their computer for graphically intense games or video editing will need a totally different configuration than somebody that just wants to browse the Internet and type word documents.
